Conan O'Brien's replacement?

Most people know that Conan O'Brien will be taking over for Jay Leno next year, but it hasn't been completely clear as to who will take over the reigns for Mr. O'Brien's current Late Night Show.

A report on IMDB.com had this to add to the burning question:

Jimmy Fallon has been tapped to replace Conan O'Brien on NBC's Late Night when O'Brien takes over hosting duties on The Tonight Show from Jay Leno next year, Fox.com entertainment columnist Roger Friedman reported today (Thursday), saying it was "a done deal." Friedman, who cited no sources, said that NBC plans to make a formal announcement around May 11th when it presents its fall schedule to advertisers.

The choice of Fallon for "Late Night" has a certain logic to it. Fallon did at one time fill in for Letterman on the "Late Show" in 2003. He's an established comedian and is said to be a favorite of "SNL" producer Lorne Michaels, who took a chance on O'Brien for "Late Night" in 1993 and who likely will play a key role in picking O'Brien's replacement. Stay tuned for NBC's official announcement.

Scared of Plants? Don't Read this...

In this day and age we, as Americans, are used to hearing about major threats to our well being everyday in the media. Everything from Terrorism, Global Warming, and even Obesity are supposedly plaguing the nation. But there is a bigger issue at hand, an invasion of GLOBAL proportions, that needs to be addressed...PLANTS.

There are about 350,000 species of plants on this planet we call earth. Of those, there are about 625 IDENTIFIED species that are considered to be carnivorous. Keep in mind this just means that there are still hundreds of thousands of species that are still in limbo, "sleeping" if you will, waiting for the official order to attack. It sounds crazy, but they are just waiting to take back the planet.

Recently there has been an underground effort* to educate the world on the many dangers that plants pose to human kind. Sure they seem motionless and docile, but I have two bits of video that prove otherwise. This organization has funded a major motion picture and a few television spots to get the word out.

The first would be "warning," funded by the anti-plant organization*, The Ruins, is about a group of college teens that run into some unforeseen trouble while visiting a set of ancient ruins. Their seemingly harmless Mexican trip turns deadly when local villagers refuse to let them leave the eroded temple. Turns out...the Pyramid is really covered with killer, flesh-eating plants.

This movie is actually pretty good. Despite the cheesiness of the trailer, I can honestly say that it will keep you on the edge of your seat. I recommend it. In fact, here is a little fun you can have with this. Take a date and somehow sneak a small twig in with you and while in the theater tickle the back of her neck with it. Guaranteed shriek!! I will admit that I will never look at a plant the same way again after seeing The Ruins. I do have a bit of a plant complex now, so bad in fact, that I find myself suffering from mass paranoia whenever a plant is in the vicinity. And it wasn't until recently that this TV spot gave me a solution to my problem...thank you Christopher Walken.

Damn your Googly Eyes!!*The Anti-Plant organization is completely made up. Just thought you would like to know...just wanted to present these two plant-themed items in a creative matter.

SNL is back and There will be Blood...

For those of you who didn't see the return of Saturday Night Live this weekend, you missed some pretty funny sketches. The Milkshake sketch, which pays homage to this years Best Picture nominees, was by far the highlight of the night. Properly titled "The Will Be Milkshake for Old Men." Check it out...

Beards are BACK, and if you don't like it SHAVE!

Many of you have seen the massive growth of hair that is slowly accumulating on my chin. Some have chimed in with their opinions on it, and I've heard comments that are both in support and in opposition of my manly growth. Personally, I do prefer to have minimal facial hair, but as we are in the midst of winter, I feel that it is more than appropriate to have some.

Throughout the history of mankind beards have been a symbol for various attributes such as wisdom, sexual virility, or high status; and, conversely, filthiness, crudeness, or an eccentric disposition. I hope that when people see me they only think of the first few.

I was inspired by the recent resurgence of the "Man Mane" in the mainstream culture. Several films spotlight the benefits of the beard. Last year, 300 rocked the world as bearded muscle-clad Spartans battled the forces of evil. King Leonidas, their powerful leader, had one of the biggest beards in recent movie history. This character was the epitome of strength, wisdom and power. Speaking of power, and more recently in theaters, a totally different character traveled the seas to rid a troubled Danish town of a menacing monster. Beowulf's beard is much smaller, but don't let that make you think he was any less powerful than King Leo. To this day there are still tales and poems that praise Beowulf's heroism. I'm telling you beards are a sign of strength.

With that said, I must tell you that I am not growing my beard out in hopes to attain instant power. Nor am I trying to be like Beowulf or King Leo. I merely wanted to give a little background and point out the recent recognition of beards in the mainstream media.

If you must know the real reason for the beard, it is actually quite simple. I have never truly tested my beard growing capabilities, and now that the industry I work in is dealing with a writers strike, I feel like now is an opportune time to try it out. So in a way I am growing a "Strike Beard." But I must make it clear, I am not doing it in support of the writers cause, which I only partly agree with, but rather, I merely want to see how the beard progresses during the duration of the WGA strike. I'm well into my growth, been growing since Thanksgiving, but my decision was solidified when I saw Conan O'Brien do this comedy bit:

Another contribution to bringing back the beards is the fact that two of the three Late Night hosts are sporting them. You already saw Conan's, Jay Leno has yet to hop on that wagon, but David Letterman was the first of all the Late Night hosts to appear on television with the face fuzz. In fact, his bristles were the inspiration behind a list on The Best Week Ever's: 10 Most inspiring Beards of ALL-TIME. I recommend you check it out, good stuff. For some real impressive facial hair feats, I also recommend that you take a gander at this website:
World Beard Championships

Pretty impressive, huh? Don't worry, I will not let my beard reach any of those proportions. I will be sure to at very least be presentable. One thing you can bet on is that I will never look like this!
