A holiday short that gets us all warm and bloody!

I love Christmas, it is the most special time of year, and apparently the sacred holiday has come early in 2009. Only seven months after I witnessed this miracle at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, horror short Treevenge is FINALLY available for the general public to enjoy. This 15 minute blood bath is sure to please horror fans everywhere. So grab your scarf, your mittens and freshly sharpened chainsaw and spread some holiday smear!

Gearing Up For Sundance 2009....

Now that a new week is upon us, I find myself trying to mentally and physically prepare for my grand return to the Sundance Film Festival 2009 in Park City, Utah. I have not attended this annual collection of Independent films since I made my Utah exodus in 2006. As you can imagine, I am more than excited to make my return. With two "fest rookie" friends at my side, Matt (NY) and Megan (LA) we are going to conquer a total of 7 screenings in 4 days. Since the festival is already well underway (has been on since Thurs. Jan. 15), we will be a little behind the buzz, which from my experience will be to our benefit.

Our indy film adventure begins on Wednesday, when we fly into Salt Lake City. Matt and I have the exact same layover in Las Vegas, and coincidentally will be on the same flight from Vegas to SLC. We couldn't have planned it better! Once we land we will meet up with Megan, somehow, some way and will head to my parents house in Park City (pictured right). We'll hit the sack and rest up for the next few days, which will be mad busy.

Our plan will be as follows, feel free to meet up with us at the following screenings:

Day 1 Thurs. Jan. 22:

8:30 am Peter & Vandy @ the Raquet Club. (Matt's Choice)3:15 pm Big Fan @ the Eccles Theatre. (Matt's Choice)
Day 2 Fri. Jan. 23:

6:00 pm Black Dynamite @ The Tower Theater, Salt Lake City (Kristian's Choice)

11:59 pm Død Snø (Dead Snow) @ The Egyptian Theater (Kristian's Choice)

Day 3 Sat. Jan. 24:

9:00 am Moon @ The Eccles Theatre (Kristian's Choice)

8:30 pm Shorts Program V @ Prospector Square Theater (Matt's Choice)

11:59 pm The Informers @ The Tower Theater, Salt Lake City (Kristian's Choice)

As you can see we have a lot to look forward to this year. Many of these films are already getting lots of critical acclaim. Some have already been picked up for distribution (Black Dynamite). Although, I must say that my Norwegian bias paired with my love for horror movies has made Dead Snow the must see film of the Festival for me this year. I will do my best to give my take on each of these flicks in blogs to come. Stay tuned and stay warm while we're freezing our asses off in Park City.

PCHS 10 year reunion, a weekend I will never forget...

I arrived in Utah safe and sound on Thursday August 21st. The only problem was I had a little tickle in the back of my throat. At first I really wasn't that concerned, seeing that I got up at 5:30 am to catch my 6:30 flight out of Burbank. But after I had been in Salt Lake City for a few hours, I really started to feel off. I had the shakes, very similar to the kind one gets after drinking too much coffee/cola. I still didn't think that much about it. I thought maybe it was my body acclimating to Utah's high elevation. It wasn't until later that night that I realized those symptoms were just the simple beginnings of what was going to be a long, painful weekend. By 9:00 I was lying in bed with a hellish fever, temperature of 101.7 degrees.

Now, I share this fact to help everyone understand just how perfect the timing of this illness was. For starters it has been months, maybe even longer than 1 year, since I had last been so sick. And here I was in Utah for 4 days to see and party with all my old high school friends and acquaintances, only I was too sick to move let alone talk. So thank you, mother nature, for spoiling what was supposed to be a wild weekend of old friends and crazy fun.

Fortunately the reunion wasn't until Saturday night, which gave me two and a half days to rest up and be in good enough form to make my grand arrival to the class of 1998's 10 year party. Although I wasn't at 100% and still had a mild fever, I did my darnedest to enjoy myself and be social. It was a lot of fun to see all the familiar faces. It was weird and neat at the same time to be around all the grown up Park City Miners. For the most part, everyone (that showed) looked exactly the same as they did on graduation day, save a few receding hairlines, beer bellies, and extra curves. The changes that I had been warned about from others who had attended previous high school reunions were not as apparent in my class. So I must say that my hat is off to my class for maintaining their health and sharpish good looks. Hell, even my buddy Lee who we called "Fats" for obvious reasons, had shed so much weight that nickname need not apply any longer. So despite my taxing illness, well damn, BECAUSE OF my sickness, this 10 year reunion weekend has been a memory that I will surly NEVER forget. Below are some pictures from The Lodge at Stillwater, where my precious get together was held...

*Thanks Matt Lyle for picking up after our class prez and putting great occasion together for us.

You know you're getting old when....

You get the invite to your 10 year High School Reunion. I'll tell you, nothing hits you like a slap in the face more than the realization that high school was a decade ago. That's right folks, I am OLD, class of 1998. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago, but is mere proof that time really does fly when you're having fun.

A couple of weeks ago I got an email, via my Myspace account, that brought this painful realization to light. I did however find much amusement with the ability to view fellow classmates profiles. To see how fat, bald they had become over the years, in some cases a combination of both. I had always heard that it is a wonder to see just how much people change in those 10 years. Not until now have I truly seen the reality of that statement.

Despite the obvious truth that I am indeed ten years older than those high school memories that seem so "fresh," I will be traveling back to Utah this August to meet and greet my fellow Park City High School class. Stay tuned for pictures and updates...
